The Susanville American Legion baseball team traveled to Fairfield, California to play in the Area One tournament. The Renegades played with only ten players but managed to win two games, and lose two. They finished in a third place tie with the host team, the Fairfield Expos, in the eight team format.

In the opener, the Renegades beat Humbolt 12-2. Ryan Sharpe went three scoreless innings and Izak Davenport pitched two innings of relief in a game shortened by the mercy rule. Hunter Morris led the offense with three hits and three runs batted in. Daniel Perry, Ryan Sharpe and Travis Fuller each had two hits.

In the second game, Susanville lost to Napa 7-2. The Renegades led 2-1 going into the sixth inning, but gave three runs in the each of the last two innings. Napa was the eventual winner of the tournament. Jarrell Cunningham pitched well in a losing effort. In the third inning Adrik  Yacelga and Logan Loflin each singled, and Daniel Perry drove them both in with a double. Loflin and Hunter Morris each had two hits for Susanville.

On Friday Susanville beat Chico 9-3 to keep their hopes alive and advance to the next round. Ryan Sharpe went four innings and got relief help from Daniel Perry to close it out. Adrik Yacelga had three hits and scored three runs. Jacob Padelford also had three hits. Hunter Morris and Daniel Perry each had two.

The Renegades took on Grass Valley on Saturday; each had team with a 2-1 record. The Renegades jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning but the Miners came back with a nine run fourth inning to take the lead. The Miners were helped by two Renegades errors. The Renegades came back to score four runs in the sixth inning to make it 9-8. Grass Valley answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-8. Susanville got two runners on in the top of the seventh but left them stranded.

The Renegades finished with a 21-15.

“I am very proud of these guys. That’s the furthest we have gone in post season. We’re from a small town and had a very small roster. We competed every step of the way and gained a lot of respect from people who saw us play. In Reno we finished third in a 24 team tournament before losing to San Leandro. We swept our District Tournament with teams from the Valley and held our own in Fairfield. Nobody played harder than we did. The boy’s did a great job”
