27 professional barbecue teams will be competing for $10,000 in prizes at the fairgrounds this Saturday, August 18th, in the 4th annual Lassen Senior Services BBQ Cookoff. Come sample some of the best chicken, pork, ribs and beef brisket you’ve ever tasted.
Beginning at 11:00a.m., on Saturday, your $5 entry fee lets you taste a one-ounce sample from each of 12 People’s Choice teams and you get to vote who you think is the best.
Some competitors will be selling to the public at $2.00 a Ă€ la cart item, making it relatively inexpensive to feed the family with world’s best barbecue.
There a few teams that will not be participating in either Peoples Choice or selling to the public, but only competing for Kanas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) and California Barbecue Association (CBBQA) points and the win.
Teams will be coming to town from Oregon, Nevada, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Redding and the Los Angeles area. This is the largest annual barbecue event in northeastern California.
“We have the top three teams in the state that are competing for the 2018 California BBQ Association Rookie of the Year honors at our competition,” said event organizer and Lassen Senior Services Director Penny Artz. “They are only separated by a few points. Looking forward to seeing who grabs the points lead leaving here.”
Items being raffled off at the event include stays in Reno Hotels, hand-made quilts and a Traeger Barbecue package.
Tickets for the quilts and the barbecue can be purchased at Plumas Bank or at County Cleaners on Main Street.
Drawings for the raffle items will take place after the awards presentation at the event.
