The Lassen County Environmental Education Collaborative, with support from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, are inviting youth in 7th-12th grades to participate in a sage grouse count at a lek near Skedaddle Mountain. The program is an overnight trip with youth camping along the Nobles Trail from April 17th to 18th.
What the heck is a lek you might ask? A lek is an arena where male sage grouse gather for the purpose of competitive breeding displays or dancing.
Youth will collect data with the guidance of wildlife biologist, Brian Ehler, and data will be reported to the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies for their count of sage grouse populations in our area.
Scouting and educational groups are welcome! Please contact Jessie Diermier to register and for more information about the equipment and supplies required: email [email protected] or call (530) 257-3252.
This event is a program of the Lassen County Environmental Education Collaborative, a partnership between the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office, Lassen National Forest, the Lassen County Office of Education and Lassen Land and Trails Trust.
