The Susanville Indian Rancheria will be holding its 7th Annual Memorial POW WOW beginning Friday evening with the Grand Entry at 7:00p.m. and running through Sunday afternoon with ceremonial dancing, food, arts and crafts and Host Drum Ghost Canyon from Fort Hall, Idaho.
The annual event, held at the Lassen County Fairgrounds, is held in honor of elders and veterans ‘for all of the sacrifices they made so that we may live.’
MC of the three-day celebration will be Fred Hill Sr. from Pendleton, Oregon along with Head Man Kellen Joseph and Head Woman Keeyana Yellowman.
As these gatherings and ceremonies are deeply spiritual there are rules for when photography is or is not acceptable, protocols for the Grand Entry and participants need to be treated with the utmost respect. The Master of Ceremonies will guide visitors and let them know when it is appropriate to take photos and video.
Drums have special rules and should not be touched or played by those not a part of the drum group. People and their regalia should not be touched without permission.
The POW WOW schedule is:
Friday May 20th, 7:00p.m.
Saturday May 21st, 12:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.
Sunday May 22nd, 12:00p.m.
