Susanville City Council has been busy this fall.
We have been in labor negotiations for quite some time now. You may have noticed us having special meetings for negotiations. Meaningful collective bargaining takes a lot of time.
The Susanville City Council is currently also serving as the Susanville Planning Commission. This happened mainly to improve meeting efficiency while reducing costs. With this change senior staff, including the city attorney will be in attendance more frequently.
Additionally, the full-time position that typically oversees the planning commission, city planner, is vacant. The city is currently using the services of a consultant firm to assist with planning related items.
The Susanville Planning Commission meetings will be held, as needed, during council meetings.
Beacon Economics presented the Economic Development Strategic Plan to city council on November 5, 2025.
The city hired Beacon Economics to research economic development opportunities for Susanville and to prepare an Economic Development Strategic Plan. Beacon Economics analyzed demographic and economic data diving deep into the economic conditions of Susanville.
They performed the following:
- Employment and Industry Analysis
- Demographic and Labor Force Dynamics Analysis
- Real Estate Market Conditions
- Commuting Patterns and Housing Trends
The Economic Development Strategic Plan will come back to council for approval at a later date.
The community will have the opportunity to celebrate with our veterans on November 11, 2025, at the Veteran’s Day Parade. Thank you to our veterans for their service.
