The holiday season is officially upon us, and Susanville is preparing to celebrate with a series of musical events designed to bring the holiday spirit to town. Throughout December, local musicians – from seasoned symphony professionals to talented high school students -will fill the air with festive sounds.
The celebrations kick off at the United Methodist Church with the Susanville Symphony’s annual holiday concert, “Christmas in the ‘Ville.” This performance promises to deliver all your holiday favorites, featuring a delightful mix of classical masterpieces and popular melodies. It is the perfect way to ensure you don’t turn into a Grinch this year.
You have two opportunities to catch this show: the evening of Friday, December 5th, at 7:00p.m., or a matinee performance on Sunday, December 7th, at 2:00p.m.
The following week, the spotlight shifts to the next generation of talent as the Lassen High School’s Concert Choir presents “Voices Raised for the Holidays.” On Friday, December 12th, at 6:00p.m., these amazing students will bring great holiday cheer to the community, also hosted at the United Methodist Church.
This event is open to everyone with free admission, though donations are welcome to help support the choir program.
As Christmas draws near, the Susanville Symphony returns for its newest and perhaps most atmospheric tradition: the Candlelight Concert. Held at the Susanville Performing Arts Center at the Sierra Theatre on Monday, December 22nd, this intimate evening features members of the Susanville Symphony String Quartet performing by the glow of candlelight.
To accommodate everyone, there are two showtimes available: an early performance from 6:00 to 7:00p.m. and a later show from 7:30 to 8:30p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, while children 16 and under can attend for just $5.
Ben Wade, the Symphony’s Artistic Director and Lassen High Concert Choir Director, sums up the spirit of the season best, “Every single person that lives in Lassen County should pick at least one of these dates to get in the holiday mood, support your performing arts community, and avoid being THE GRINCH this Christmas Season,” Wade says. “There is no excuse!”
