Hi there, I’m Shelly, your future forever friend with a shell.
I’m a red-eared slider, which means I’ve got a bright red streak by each eye, a calm personality, and a love for both land and water. I may not bark or purr, but I’ll swim to greet you when you walk by and bask like a queen under my heat lamp when it’s time to soak up the rays.
I’m a semi-aquatic turtle, so I’ll need a nice big tank (at least 75 gallons when I’m full-grown!) with clean, filtered water to swim in and a dry dock to bask on. A good UVB light is a must to keep my shell healthy and strong, and I’d love a varied diet of turtle pellets, leafy greens, and the occasional protein treat like shrimp or worms.
I’m not the kind of pet you cuddle, but I’m fascinating to watch, low on drama, and full of quiet charm. If you’re ready to commit to a long-term relationship, I can live 20 to 30 years with good care, I’ll be your steady, shell-wearing companion through it all.
Let’s make a splash together, adopt me and bring a little turtle love into your life. Please call Lassen County Animal Shelter staff at 1.530.257.9200 to learn more about me.
Love, Shelly the Slider
