Alice Netherton Goddard – October 13, 2022

Alice Netherton Goddard departed for heaven on October 13, 2022, following a heart attack in Mesa, Arizona.

Born April 25, 1923, to TB and Bessie Netherton in Maysville, Arkansas, Alice was the fifth of eight children. She grew up in a loving, Christian family.
She began her college education at Oklahoma State University, but left shortly after to marry the love of her life, Phillip Woodrow “Woody” Goddard as he left to serve four years in the North African and European campaigns during WWII. Upon his return, they began their family, moved to California, and Alice began the teaching career that would continue for 43 years.

She was a highly respected and well liked teacher over the years to countless students who continued to honor her long after her retirement in 1995.

After retirement Alice continued to pursue her many interests…acting in community productions, traveling, participating in numerous card playing groups, being active in her church, immersing herself in family events, and avidly following her favorite sports teams.

Alice was predeceased in death by her parents, siblings (Tom, Jim, MaryJane, Rex, Mack, and Joe), her husband of 63 years, Woody, and her son, Phil. She is survived by her children Gail (Rocky), Gary (Susan), Dan (Gail), and her sister, Pat Palm.  Alice was dearly loved by her grandchildren…Tamara, Chip, Kate, Becca, Matt, Julie, Jill and 12 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Alice was a deeply devoted and spiritual woman. She loved God, family, and country. She was a mentor to many, truly one of a kind. Energetic, enthusiastic, with a “can-do” attitude, she lived a full and meaningful life. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at East Valley Free Will Baptist Church, 2160 North Power Road in Mesa, Arizona, on November 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will take place in Maysville, Arkansas, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to East Valley Free Will Baptist Church or Maysville Baptist Church in her name.
