Artwork by local artist Bonnie Peterson Bauer will be on display at the Lassen County Arts Council’s gallery on Cottage Street during the month of November, and the Council has a big reception planned for this Tuesday, November 10th.
Bauer says that being born into a family of female artists was a blessing that gave her an introduction into the arts and has led to more than 50-years of learning, practicing and creating across several different mediums.
“In 1959 as a senior in high school I received a scholarship to Scripps College in Claremont, California,” explains Bauer. “In 1965 I moved to Berkeley and built a silk screen and started painting oil paintings and selling much of what I produced.”
Bauer was heavily influenced by oriental art at the time, moving to San Francisco and working with friend and fellow artist Jerry Felix until his death in 1979.
In 1980 Bauer enrolled in a ceramics class at Lassen College and learned how to hand-build her work in clay. Her work has been exhibited in Berkeley, San Francisco, Alturas and at Lassen College.
“I continue to paint in oils and also work in pastels,” said Bauer, “Things that excite me in my work are use of texture and contrast of colors to amuse and wake people up.”
Everyone is invited to attend the gallery opening at 807 Cottage Street beginning at 5:30 Tuesday evening.
