Artwork by local artist David Holsey will be on display at the Lassen County Arts Council’s gallery on Cottage Street during the month of February, and the Council has a big reception planned for Wednesday, February 11th.
Holsey, a well-known local musician for the past 50 years, expanded his artistic interests several years ago to include painting and drawing. After retiring he began studying art at Lassen College, focusing his talents on graphite pencil drawing and oil on canvas.
His works have been displayed in a visual arts presentation at Lassen College and his earlier work was shown at the Arts Council’s gallery in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
Holsey says that he finds inspiration for his oil paintings from his studies, his travels and our local area. His drawings of trees and flowers reflect the influence of his studies in Asian art and printmaking.
Not only does Holsey spend every day working on his art in an inspiring home studio but he also continues to play music and says that he plans to pursue his artistic interests for the rest of his life. As he says, “Life is art.”
Everyone is invited to attend the gallery opening at 807 Cottage Street, February 11th, beginning at 5:30p.m.
