The Lassen County Arts Council, in partnership with art educators Rob and Danielle Cannon, will be offering a five-day Summer Art Program for kids, with classes beginning June 17th.

The Cannons have planned five art-filled days focusing on different projects and concepts.

Classes are from 9:00 to noon each day and are $25 per class.

You can book classes online by clicking here and visiting the Arts Council’s website.

Rob and Danielle Cannon are a husband and wife art education duo who, during the summer, teach art and creative techniques through short lessons and opportunities for students to try new materials and techniques.

Rob is a professional artist and former comic book publisher with a passion for creation and storytelling. His primary goal with teaching art to younger students is to break down the most important fundamentals of art, such as color theory, perspective, and experience with professional grade materials, and communicate them to students of any age. Some of his former students are better educated in art than he was at the age of 18.

Danielle is an experienced paraeducator and has worked with students of all ages, specializing in early/elementary childhood education. She has been a paraeducator at Shaffer School for three school years, and has a background in special ed. She is a strong believer in explorative play and letting students experiment on their own, without being too strict on the result of a given project.

The first two days of the program with the younger group will be focused on animal crafts and storytelling. Students will collaborate together, handle a variety of materials, and build their own characters out of clay and come up with backstories and worlds for them.

The second half of the week with the older group will be more focused on storytelling, with the first day being a brush up on the fundamentals, and the last two days being focused on character creation, sequential storytelling (comics), and drawing from life. Students will be free to work on whatever they want if they really feel like focusing on something!”
