The talented members of J&J Performing Arts’ competitive teams have been busy lately representing Lassen County in regional dance competitions and bringing home top awards.
At early February’s Encore National Dance Competition in Carson City, the teams ranked incredibly well despite some fierce competition.
Junior soloist Kaylee Micone brought home an Ultra High Gold and 4th in the overall. J&J’s junior trio Tele received the top Platinum and highest in their category. Their group routine Manolo, choreographed by senior Ashlyn Clark, received 3rd in the overall, and Not About Angels, choreographed by senior Hailey Gregor, was 2nd in the overall.
“Our teen/senior teams hip hop, Feeling Myself was a Platinum winner and brought down the house with their energy and performance,” said J&J Director Jessica Wade.
At Spotlight Dance Cup in Carson City, earlier this month, the teams brought home 5 Diamond Awards.
According to Wade, teen, Acro-Soloist, Alyssa Zimmerman won the Diamond, Judges Choice, and 7th overall in a huge group of soloists. Teen Mariah Beckman also took home the Diamond for her Jazz Solo.
Junior jazz trio Tele brought home Diamond and 1st overall. The junior jazz group brought home Diamond and 1st in their Category as well as the Showmanship Award.
Let it Be, a teen contemporary piece that the team performed at the Lassen County Office of Educations Lit Jam, received the highest award, a Diamond, at Spotlight. The piece is set to the Beatles song Let it Be and covered by the Across the Universe cast.
Ava Seitz received Junior Most Photogenic at Spotlight and Izzy Norwood received Teen Most Photogenic at both Encore and Spotlight Competitions. Their headshots were taken by local photographer Stephanie Blakeman Photography, and both are now entered into the National Selections.
The J&J Competitive Teams will travel to Rainbow Dance in Sacramento, in late April for their next competition.
