Dr. Bateson sends us this photo of the moon taken during the lunar eclipse in the early hours of April 4th.
Bateson took the photo at around 5:00a.m. Saturday with his 85mm refractor in less than ideal viewing conditions. “The top of the moon never did go dark completely even if it was in the umbral shadow,” explains Bateson.
Clouds surrounded the moon which disappeared behind them shortly after the image was taken. The entire eclipse lasted less than five minutes.
The Bateson Observatory is a private observatory near Susanville California engaged in Astrophotography and Scientific Research measuring the size and orbits of asteroids.
