With the approach of winter storms, Chief of Police Tom Downing is reminding Susanville residents to be ready for snow removal throughout the city.
“The City of Susanville has an ordinance that becomes effective whenever there is three inches of snow or ice on any part of the roadways in the city,” explains Chief Downing. “During these conditions, no vehicle may be parked or left unattended on any city street; vehicles may be towed immediately at the owner’s expense.”
Also in accordance with the California Vehicle Code, any time a vehicle is left standing on any public street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours, that vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Consequently, the Susanville Police Department is requesting the cooperation of the public to move all travel and utility trailers, boats and recreational vehicles parked on city streets to storage for the winter months. As winter begins, please also move any portable basketball hoops away from the roadway and sidewalks as they can interfere with snowplowing equipment.
If you have any questions about these laws, please contact the Susanville Police Department during normal business hours at (530) 257-5603.
