Beyond Ready: National 4H Week Gives Local Clubs a Chance to Shine

From fairgrounds to classrooms, community gardens to robotics labs, 4-H youth in Lassen County are proving they’re not just ready for the future – they’re Beyond Ready. During National 4-H Week, celebrated October 5th through the 11th, local clubs shared how 4-H equips young people with the skills, confidence, and resilience to lead in a world full of opportunity and change.

On Tuesday, October 14th, the 2025-26 Lassen County 4-H Ambassadors, Abigail Hemphill and John Ammon, along with past Ambassadors Layton Allen, Molly Dickson, Paiton Hallmark, Samantha Medvin and Russell Mallery, requested the Lassen County Board of Supervisors adopt a proclamation designating National 4-H Week in Lassen County.

Supervisors were given tubs of honey produced by bees from Ambassador Hemphill’s family ranch.

Members in 4-H clubs across the county learned about California legislation, who represents them, and how to contact them. They wrote thank you notes to Majority Leader Aguiar-Curry and Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick for drafting and voting in favor of the proclamation.

Lassen County 4-H members celebrated National 4-H week by holding Achievement Night at the Smith Farm to honor the accomplishments of members.

Richmond 4-H club donated a basket of baby items to the first baby born during National 4-H week. Milford 4-H met at Wemple’s Pumpkin Patch, talked to families about 4-H and sponsored 50 free hayrides.

Windows were painted at various businesses, posters highlighting 4-H were placed at different locations in town, treats were provided to teachers at local schools, and members gave presentations about 4-H to various classrooms.

The 2025 national 4-H week theme “Beyond Ready” is a reminder that 4-H is building a ready generation in a world of change and equips young people with skills for the future.

The Lassen 4-H program is delivered to over 192 youths by 66 volunteers in its 8 clubs and provides day camp and overnight camp engagement activities in Lassen County, providing opportunities for participants to become confident, independent, resilient and compassionate leaders.

There are numerous projects to participate in from livestock, baking and cooking, gardening, bicycling, fly-fishing, legos, shooting sports, communication and more.

Youth from 5 to 18-years-old are invited to participate and 4H is always looking for volunteers! Registration for the 2025-2026 year is open now, call Lassen 4H to learn how to join at 1.530.251.8285.
