The mountain town of Westwood’s celebration of its first 100 years got into full-swing this last week, with more activities planned in the town between now and August.
There was a street dance held Friday night and on Saturday thousands of past and present residents came home to celebrate with a parade through the streets of the town.
For many it was a homecoming a long-time in the making. As Janice Pelzer, who moved to Napa from Westwood in 1963 told us, “We had been meaning to revisit Westwood for many years, the 100th birthday seemed like the perfect time. We’ve had so much fun!”

What does the Westwood Area Chamber have planned for the rest of the summer? Here are some fun dates to mark on the calendar:
Old-Timer Teas/Coffees – Old Mill at 2 p.m. July 20th (Residents from the 1950s); August 17th (Residents from the 1960s and 1970s).
Oral Histories — Community Center 7:00p.m. July 20th Growing Up in Westwood During the 1930s and 1940s; August 17th 10:00a.m. brunch at Walker Mansion: Mrs. Walker’s History of Westwood–Call Walker Mansion Inn for reservations 256-2169. A silent auction will be held as a fund raiser for the Westwood Museum.
Self-Guided History Walks: Saturdays through August. Maps available at Westwood Museum or the Visitors’ Center $3.
August 11th, 3:00p.m. Cemetery Walk with Lassen County Historian, Tim Purdy. Westwood Cemetery.
Bird Walks with Suzanne McDonald July 27th, 8:00a.m. – noon, August 17th at 8:00a.m.-11:00a.m. (Birds and Bugs). Meet at Visitors’ Center.
