Susanville School District is gearing up for a season of transition as it prepares for the 2026-2027 academic year. The district recently announced a series of leadership updates, including the retirements of two long-standing administrators and a significant move within the district’s current leadership team.
Farewells and New Beginnings
The upcoming school year will mark the end of an era for two schools, as the district bids a fond farewell to Mrs. Klinock at Meadow View School and Ms. Cockerill at McKinley Elementary. The district expressed deep gratitude for their years of “tireless efforts” in supporting students, staff and the wider Susanville community.
A Homecoming at McKinley
In a move described as “bittersweet,” Mrs. Heimbigner, the current Principal at Diamond View Middle School, will be transferring to lead McKinley Elementary next year.
Heimbigner’s tenure at Diamond View has been marked by significant achievement; most notably, she led her team of educators to secure a CA Distinguished School Award – a first in the district’s history. While she expressed a deep love and appreciation for the time spent at Diamond View, the move to McKinley represents a poignant, full-circle moment.
“As a young girl, she roamed the halls as a wide-eyed student and took her first steps towards learning in the classrooms that she will now walk as Principal,” the district shared in their statement on the changes.
For Heimbigner, taking the helm at the very school she attended as a child feels like “coming home,” and she is eager to build lasting relationships within the primary school community.
Looking Ahead
With these changes, the Susanville School District has officially launched a search for new, high-quality leaders to join the administrative team. The district is committed to finding exceptional candidates who will continue to foster the success of our students and schools.
