Caltrans crews have shut down Highway 44 west of Susanville today, December 15th, as they recover a big-rig which jackknifed on the icy roadway last Thursday night. The closure is expected to last through this afternoon as workers clear the highway.
The closure is from the Junction of Highway 36 to the Junction of A-21 on Highway 44.
Motorists are being advised by the California Highway Patrol that detours are available. From the closure on 44 a detour will take you on A-21 to Highway 36 at Westwood where you can connect back to the junction of 44 and 36. From the north the CHP is advising drivers to utilize Highway 139 rather than 44.
