Bottle & Brush Art Bar to Close After 10 Years
A beloved staple of Susanville’s downtown scene is preparing to say goodbye. After a decade of entertaining locals, Bryan and Roxanna Haynes, owners of Bottle & Brush Art Bar, have announced that they will officially close the business on September 18th.
What began ten years ago as a creative space for paint classes quickly expanded into a vibrant community hub. Nine years on Main Street and across two locations, Bottle & Brush became known for its wide array of events, ranging from board art workshops, jewelry making, and trivia nights to wine tastings, karaoke, line dancing and murder mystery parties.
In a heartfelt message to the community, the owners shared that the decision to close comes from a desire to focus on family life.
“This past year and a half has been a lot for us as we tried to balance family and business, and honestly, we’ve realized we can’t keep all the balls in the air anymore,” the couple wrote.
“Choosing to slow down and prioritize our family wasn’t a hard decision at all — but choosing to close Bottle & Brush was difficult. This place has meant so much to us, and to all of you.”
Final Events and Next Steps
While the doors will close in mid-September, residents still have a few remaining opportunities to visit:
Final Wine Tasting: This evening, August 27th. Tickets are available now, and attendance is expected to sell out quickly.
Final Paint Classes: The owners plan to host a few last paint nights before the closing date. Specific dates will be announced on their official channels soon.
A Turnkey Opportunity
For those interested in carrying on the tradition, Bryan and Roxanna noted that the business itself is up for sale. They are encouraging serious inquiries from anyone interested in purchasing the turnkey bar to contact them directly.
“Nine years of hearing your stories, celebrating with you, and being part of your lives — that’s what we’ll carry with us,” the post concluded.
“You didn’t just support a small business, you became our friends… Thank you for ten incredible years. We love you, Susanville.”

Gablewoods Academy — Old Fashioned Skills for Girls
Something beautiful is beginning in the woods just outside Susanville.
Gablewoods Academy is a home-based arts academy for girls, created around the kinds of things girls have learned, made and passed down for generations — sewing, baking, painting, embroidery, flowers, hosting, homemaking and other beautiful, useful skills.
The Academy was created by local mother Christina Andersen, who has spent years homeschooling and making alongside her own five daughters.
“My best days have been spent around a table with my girls — sewing, painting, baking, creating, learning and making ordinary days feel a little more beautiful. Gablewoods Academy grew from a desire to make more room for that kind of beauty, and to invite other girls to our table.”
Rather than focusing on one art form, the girls will experience something different throughout the year. One week might find them learning to use sewing machines to start their first quilt, another week arranging flowers, water coloring, baking bread, embroidering by hand, setting a beautiful table or discovering the history behind an old-fashioned skill.
Gatherings will include hands-on instruction, beautiful materials and tools, stories and history, inspiration from women who practice these skills today, music, snacks and plenty of time around the table making something of their own.
Gablewoods Academy will serve girls in the Susanville area, with small class sizes and weekly two-hour gatherings.

Red Hut Pizza Expands Hours for Fall Season
A local favorite is shaking up its operations just in time for the back-to-school and football seasons.
New Early-Week Lunch Hours
To meet rising demand, the pizzeria is launching a pilot program to open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Days: Monday & Tuesday
Hours: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Focus: Fast, affordable lunch specials and delivery options
New Menu Items & Upcoming Mailers
Alongside the operational changes, the kitchen is currently testing new pizza recipes set to launch soon. In the meantime, two recently added menu items—a Philly Steak Sandwich and a Fried Cod Sandwich—remain available. Residents should also keep an eye out for monthly postcard coupon mailers arriving in local mailboxes over the next three weeks.
