Welcome to our weekly feature dedicated to covering Susanville and Lassen County’s business scene! Grand openings, new employees, renovations, new hours… each week we’ll keep you up to date with important information about the businesses you rely on.
The Susanville Salvation Army
The Susanville Salvation Army is saying goodbye to their Coordinator Carla McDonald with a going away party and everybody is invited. McDonald is moving to Wyoming to enjoy retirement and time with her grandkids.

“As I look back on the past five years I cannot do so without tears in my eyes,” says McDonald.
“I am so honored and very humbled to have been allowed to serve my Lassen County family during this time. None of the progress we have made as an organization over the years would not have happened without the support and the faith in me from my supervisor – but more importantly, my friend – Juanita Williams; the army of volunteers who have always been the muscle and the engine that keeps everything running smoothly; and a community that amazes me over and over with the outpouring of love and compassion for their neighbors in need.”
“Without trying to sound cheesy and cliché?, you all are the wind beneath my wings, and I am going to miss you very much! Don’t stop doing the most good!”
McDonald’s party will be held this Saturday, February 21st, at 2:00p.m. at the Lassen Senior Center, 1700 Sunkist Drive in Susanville. Light refreshments will be provided.

Diamond Mountain Casino & Hotel

The angst is officially coming back to Susanville as Diamond Mountain Casino & Hotel prepares to host “Alt Era: Sing It Loud” this Saturday, February 21st.
If you’ve ever found yourself white-knuckling the steering wheel while screaming the bridge of a My Chemical Romance song, this is the perfect excuse to take that energy out of the car and onto the stage.
Starting at 9:00p.m., the casino will transform into a sanctuary for the misunderstood and the nostalgic, celebrating the 90s and 00s alternative scene that defined a generation.
The night promises a deep dive into the soundtrack of our youth, with DJ Talbot behind the decks spinning everything from Seattle-inspired 90s grit to the neon-streaked pop-punk anthems of the early 2000s.
The real highlight of the evening, however, is the Alt Karaoke which runs all the way until 1:00a.m. The floor belongs to the fans, giving everyone a chance to front their own imaginary arena tour and belt out the throwbacks that lived on their iPod Shuffles. Whether you still have your favorite band tee or you’ve traded the combat boots for a desk job, they are inviting everyone to come out and prove that it really “was never a phase.”

Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce
Neither freezing temperatures nor a relentless blizzard could dampen the spirits of Lassen County’s favorite little mountain town Tuesday night. Despite the whiteout conditions, a dedicated crowd gathered at Westwood’s Burros and Churros for the Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Membership Mixer.
The Chamber took the opportunity to honor the businesses and organizations that consistently go above and beyond for Westwood.
Board member Lana Beal said, “We are so very thankful for all of our community contributors.”
“We encourage all residents to take a moment to look through the full list of honorees. These organizations invest in us daily – let’s make sure we continue to return the favor by supporting them in turn.”
Please check out the businesses and groups that were recognized extraordinary contributions to the community.
