Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will conduct several prescribed burning projects in Lassen and Modoc counties during fall and early winter.
Crews from the Applegate Field Office in Alturas plan to burn piles of brush and limbs in three projects.
In Modoc County, the Northeast Warner Mountain project will encompass about 500 acres on public land about five miles southwest of Fort Bidwell, and the Westside Project will cover about 1,500 acres about five miles southwest of Alturas. The Hayden Hill pile burning project will include about 600 acres about 50 miles north of Susanville in Lassen County.
The piles were created during project work to reduce fuel loading and improve conditions in sage-steppe habitats important to wildlife.
Also in Lassen County, the Eagle Lake Field Office is planning a 400 to 500-acre broadcast burn near the Stones-Bengard community at North Eagle Lake.  The project is designed to improve native grass stands and reduce wildfire risk to the community.
Burning projects will be conducted only when conditions allow for safe and successful burning and smoke management.
