Members of the Modoc-Washoe Experimental Stewardship Program Steering Committee will convene for a field tour and business meeting Wednesday and Thursday, June 21st and 22nd, in Alturas and Cedarville. The field tour and meeting are open to the public.
On June 21st, the committee members will meet at 10:00a.m., at the Modoc National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 225 W. 8th Street and depart on the daylong field tour in the Modoc National Forest. Members of the public must provide their own transportation, food and beverages.
On June 22nd, the business meeting will run from 9:00a.m., to 4:00p.m., at the Bureau of Land Management Surprise Field Station, 602 Cressler Street in Cedarville.
Morning agenda items include reports from committee members and agencies, a discussion of the committee mission and working guidelines, and a report from the Lassen Grazing technical review team.
Afternoon agenda items include a report on the Joseph Creek project, an update from the research technical review team, an update on wild horse management and a report on Cooperative Extension research. The committee will also discuss post-fire grazing and allocation of temporarily non-renewable forage.

The Modoc-Washoe group is part of the national Experimental Stewardship Program, created by Congress in the Public Rangelands Improvement Act of 1978. The program encourages rangeland management innovation and incentives for improving conditions on public rangelands. The Modoc-Washoe group advises the BLM’s Surprise Field Station and the Modoc National Forest’s Warner Mountain Ranger District.
The committee has diverse membership including livestock grazing permit holders, representatives from the BLM and Forest Service, and the California and Nevada Departments of Fish and Wildlife. Other interests represented include the timber industry, invasive weed control interests, resource conservation districts, NRCS, environmental and sporting interests from California and Nevada and local government.
