Public comments on proposed management approaches for recently acquired public lands in far northwest Nevada are now being accepted by the Bureau of Land Management Surprise Field Office in Cedarville.
An environmental assessment discussing proposed management alternatives and environmental consequences for the Home Camp area is now available for review and comment. It is available online at www.blm.gov/ca/surprise. Click on the Home Camp Environmental Assessment link.

The BLM acquired about 15,000 acres of formerly private lands through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act in 2010. The area, locally known as Home Camp, is about 25 miles east of Eagleville, Calif., in Washoe County, Nev. The lands were acquired specifically for conservation of fish and wildlife habitat, to provide public access and to maintain multiple uses.
The environmental assessment discusses proposals to enhance wildlife habitat, improve public recreation opportunities, improve aspen stands, and to restore riparian areas and sage steppe ecosystems. It also discusses proposals for managing livestock grazing.
