The Bureau of Land Management is officially recruiting volunteer camp hosts for two popular campgrounds in Northern California for the 2026 recreation seasons. According to BLM Lead Public Affairs Specialist Jesse Pluim, these volunteer positions offer a unique opportunity to live and work in beautiful public land settings while providing valuable services to visitors.
To support these volunteers, the BLM provides a designated site equipped with all necessary hookups for an RV or camp trailer. Additionally, hosts may receive a small stipend to assist with their living expenses. The primary duties for these roles include greeting visitors, providing helpful information, and performing light maintenance tasks to keep the facilities in top shape.
North Eagle Lake Campground
The North Eagle Lake Campground is looking for a host to serve from May 15th through November 15th. This 20-site developed campground is located along County Road A1, roughly 30 miles north of Susanville near the scenic shores of Eagle Lake.
The facility offers potable water and vault toilets and can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet in length. While the position is slated to run through the onset of winter weather, Pluim notes that a split summer and fall season could be arranged for multiple hosts.
Pit River Campground
A hosting opportunity is also available at the Pit River Campground from April 1st through October 31st. This intimate eight-site campground is situated five miles east of Fall River Mills along State Route 299 in eastern Shasta County.
The location is known for its scenic riverside setting and features a group site, a kayak launch, and an accessible fishing pier.
Similar to the Eagle Lake position, this role runs until winter weather begins, and the BLM is open to arranging a split season for interested volunteers.
