Body of Missing Susanville Kayaker Recovered from McCoy Flat Reservoir

The Lassen County Sheriff-Coroner’s office announced Tuesday that they have recovered the body of a missing Susanville man who had been kayaking at McCoy Flat Reservoir on Highway 44 west of Susanville. The man was identified as 50-year old Susanville resident Jeffrey Wade Jennings.

At around noon on Monday, according to details released by Sheriff Dean Growdon, the Sheriff’s Office received a report that Jennings was missing and his vehicle was located using its onboard OnStar GPS system.

Deputies responded to the area and located the vehicle, but could not locate Jennings.

Additional personnel responded with a rescue boat to conduct a search of the reservoir and were advised that a body had been located in the water by a group of kayakers. It was recovered by the team from the Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.

On Tuesday Deputies returned to the reservoir to continue their investigation, locating a kayak that is believed to have belonged to Jennings.

“The investigation into the death of Jennings is ongoing,” said Sheriff Growdon. “The men and women of the Lassen County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office would like to offer their condolences to the family and co-workers of Jeffrey Jennings.”
