Bryan Schaake Invited to Junior Olympics

A SusanvilleStuff Feature
by Char Petersen

On your mark, get set, bang!  The percussion of the gun is a familiar sound for 17 year-old senior Bryan Schaake. This young athlete has completed many feats in his career, and is on a new journey of achievement – to the Junior Olympics in Australia.

In early September, Schaake received a letter addressed to him inviting him to participate in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Schaake was the only athlete, out of thousands, asked to represent California in the Western Conference track team, and when asked what he thought about the letter, Bryan humorously answered, “I, Bryan Schaake, was shocked.”

He added more seriously, “I’m just really excited more than anything else. I feel honored that I was chosen to represent, and really want to do my best in Australia.”

In order to travel to the event in Australia next summer Bryan must raise $4,700. If you’d like to sponsor Bryan you can go to Lassen Credit Union to make donation, or call him at 563-8315.
