Susanville School District

Information Release: 2/21/14

This morning, before the start of school, a primary-age student was struck by a vehicle near Meadow View School on Paiute Lane. Emergency services were contacted immediately and arrived on scene just a few minutes later. The student was conscious and alert following the incident. The parents were contacted immediately and were on scene with the child. Paramedics conducted an initial assessment of the student and the student was then transported to the hospital by ambulance for further examination. Initial contact indicates that the student’s injuries were minor and the student will recover from the incident.

School and District staff will be working with local emergency response agencies to provide additional information to our students about the importance of pedestrian safety on our city streets and highways. The streets around our schools are often congested with car and foot traffic during the beginning and end of each school day.

This incident reminds us all that a heightened awareness by both those on foot and in vehicles is essential in order to make our streets as safe as possible.

Any parents with questions or concerns please feel free to contact the offices at the school and/or the district office.
