Burns Announces Resignation: Makes Way for New D.A.

burnsresignsCalling his years as Lassen County District Attorney ‘the honor of his professional career,’ Robert Burns tendered his resignation yesterday – clearing the way for newly elected District Attorney Stacey Montgomery to step into the position.

Burns, who began his career with the county as Deputy District Attorney in 1993, chose not to run for the office again, moving instead into the role of Lassen County Counsel.

“Now that the voters have spoken, and consistent with my previously announced intentions,” said Burns in a brief letter addressed to Board of Supervisors’ chairman Larry Wosick, “I hereby tender my resignation as Lassen County District Attorney / Public Administrator effective Monday, June 9th, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.”

“I am hopeful that you will consider appointing the victor from the June 3, 2014 primary election, Ms. Stacey Montgomery, as Lassen County’s next District Attorney/Public Administrator, to fill the remainder of my elected term.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the citizens of Lassen County for the opportunity to have served in this very important position,” Burns wrote, “It has been the honor of my professional career.”

Burns was first elected Lassen County District Attorney in 1998 – at age 35 he was the youngest D.A. in the State of California.
