Lassen County’s Clerk-Recorder Julie Bustamante announced Friday that the deadline for candidates to file for the November 4th statewide general election has been extended in those races where the incumbent chose not to run again. The extended deadline for any person, other than the incumbent, to file a Declaration of Candidacy is now the close of business on Wednesday, August 13th.
This extended deadline is not applicable where there is no incumbent to be elected.
According to Bustamante the districts with extended openings are:
School Districts
- Lassen Board of Education: One (1) Full Term (FT) seat from Trustee Area (TRA) 1 expiring 12/8/2018
- Big Valley Joint Unified: One (1) Short Term (ST) member at large expiring 12/2/2016 and ONE FT from TRA 2 expiring 12/8/2018;
- Fort Sage Unified: ONE FT from TRA 3 expiring 12/8/2018
- Lassen Union High School: Three (3) FT expiring 12/8/2018
- Shaffer Elementary: Three (3) FT expiring Dec 7, 2018
- Susanville Elementary: Three (3) FT expiring Dec 7, 2018
- Westwood Unified: three (3) FT expiring Dec 7, 2018
Special Districts
- Lake Forest Fire Protection: Three (3) Full Term (FT) expiring Dec. 7, 2018
- Madeline Fire Protection: Two (2) FT expiring Dec. 7, 2018
- Standish-Litchfield Fire Protection: Three (3) FT expiring Dec. 7, 2018
- Lassen Library: Two (2) FT expiring Dec. 7, 2018
- Clear Creek Community Services: Three (3) FT expiring Dec. 7, 2018
- Little Valley Community Services: Two (2) ST expiring Dec. 2, 2016, and One (1) FT expiring Dec. 7, 2018
- Westwood Community Services: Two (2) FT expiring Dec. 7, 2018
Any person, other than the incumbent, wishing to file can do so at the Lassen County Clerk’s office in the Historic Courthouse, at 220 S Lassen Street, Suite 5, Susanville.
To qualify for the election candidates must be registered voters and otherwise qualified to vote for that office at the time nomination papers are issued and shall reside in the district during their incumbency.
