The CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit will begin conducting a timber understory burn, May 7th and 8th, just west of the Clear Creek community, part of a project aimed at reducing hazardous fuel loads along the Highway 147 corridor.
Residents and travelers in the area will likely notice smoke and flames during the operation, but fire officials emphasize that these are planned burns and there is no need to report them.
The primary goal of the prescribed burn is to remove flammable fuel accumulations that have built up in the area. By proactively managing these fuels, fire crews aim to create a buffer that reduces the potential intensity of future wildfires, providing better protection for the surrounding communities of Westwood, Clear Creek and the Almanor Basin.
