A reminder that Cal-Fire has announced that all dooryard burn permits within Lassen, Modoc and Plumas Counties will be suspended as of midnight tonight, June 30, 2013.
The burn ban will continue until formally cancelled by Cal-Fire. Dooryard burn permits will not be issued and dooryard burning is not allowed during this time.
Cal-Fire encourages residents to remove fire hazards around their home.
One common fire hazard is the accumulation of dead or dying grass. It’s hard to avoid when you live where the wildland and urban areas interface, but having dry grass around your home is like leaving fuel for a fire to consume. Fire burning in grass is extremely dangerous and unpredictable and can quickly spread out of control and could cause loss of life and property.
One of the common denominators on fatal and near-fatal incidents is fires burning in relatively light fuels, such as grass. Keeping a green lawn around your home can provide a fuel break that can slow or even stop a fire’s progress.
Please help in the fight to protect your property. If you have a lawn around your home – keep it short and green. Any other grasses should be no longer than 4”. Cut grass when it is safe to do so. Use a weed trimmer not a lawn mower to cut dry grass.
Don’t cut the grass in the heat of the day or when the wind is blowing.
