Due to recent and forecasted rainfall, Cal-FIRE’s Lassen Modoc Unit Chief has lifted the requirement for a burn permit in Lassen, Modoc and Plumas Counties. The change will take effect on November 22nd, at 8:00a.m.
While the burn permit requirement is lifted, it’s important to remember that anyone conducting outdoor burning is still responsible for any escaped fires and could face criminal or civil liability.
Cal-FIRE urges residents to continue practicing safe burning practices, such as:
- Avoiding burning on windy days
- Staying with burn piles until they are completely extinguished
- Checking with the local air district to ensure it is a permissive burn day. Air districts can issue fines for burning on “No Burn Days”
Those burning on property they don’t own must obtain permission from the property owner and present it upon request.
