Caltrans will begin paving work this week on the Almanor West Rehabilitation Project along State Route 89, in Plumas County. The project is located near Canyondam from just north of the Lake Almanor Spillway to SR 36. Additional construction activities may occur, pending weather.
According to Caltrans District 2, the purpose of the project is to improve safety, driver comfort, ride quality and reduce the maintenance needs of the roadway.
Shoulders will be widened to a minimum of four feet from post mile 30.2 to PM 39.0, and eight feet from PM 39.0 to PM 42.2.
TRAFFIC IMPACT: Starting on Monday, 24-hour traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should expect delays near the aforementioned project vicinity on SR 89 of up to 14 minutes.
24-hour traffic control is required during times traffic is on an unpaved surface, and to also ensure the safety of our contractor partners when they may be on or adjacent to the roadway, conducting operations.
Total corridor delays for SR 89 may average 30 minutes.
This $37.1 million project includes 160 working days, with all working days requiring traffic control. The bulk of construction is expected to be accomplished in the summer, and is projected to be finished by the end of 2025, pending weather.
