CASA Program Holding 8th Annual Superhero 5K Fun Run October 25th

Get ready to don your cape! The Lassen Family Services Court Appointed Special Advocates Program is hosting its annual Superhero-themed 5K fun run and one-mile walk on Saturday, October 25th. This exciting event is a crucial fundraiser to support local programs that advocate for abused and neglected children right here in Lassen County.

CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, works to ensure the voice of every child in foster care is heard. CASA volunteers are thoroughly screened, trained, and supervised to stand by these children—advocating for them in and out of court to make sure they receive the essential services and support they need. The CASA program is dedicated to making sure these vulnerable youth do not become “forgotten foster children,” reflecting the mission of the National CASA Association for Children: to give every child the opportunity to thrive in a safe and loving home.

Join the Family Fun
The day promises to be a great time for the entire family, kicking off at the Senior Center on Sunkist Drive. Lassen Family Services encourages everyone to participate by wearing their favorite superhero or villain costume and joining the costume contest! Kids and adults alike will enjoy seeing fire and police equipment on display.

Registration for the 5K Fun Run is $20, and kids under 10 can do the 5K for free. The one-mile walk is completely free for all participants! All proceeds from the event directly benefit the CASA Program. You can register for the run online today by clicking here.

Registration at the event begins at 8:00a.m. and the Run/Walk starts at 9:00.

The Course Details
The route will start on Sunkist in front of the Senior Center, taking runners and walkers onto Limonerie Avenue and then to Riverside Drive. Participants will cross the street, stay inside designated cones, and turn onto Alexander Avenue. After crossing the bridge, the route turns right onto the Susan River Trail.

Walkers will follow the route to where the trail first crosses Riverside Drive by the ballpark, turn around, and return to the Senior Center the same way they came.

Runners will continue past that point, following the trail to its end near the District Attorney’s Office, turn around, and run back along the same path to the finish line at the Senior Center.

For your safety and comfort, the course will be well-staffed with volunteers to guide you through turns and assist with the two crossings of Riverside Drive. There will also be two water stations—one at the walkers’ turnaround and one at the runners’ turnaround—and a person on a bike will “sweep” the trail behind the last runner to ensure everyone finishes safely.

According to CASA, the only cost to the City of Susanville for this important event will be for the placement and pick-up of necessary road closure signs and cones to keep everyone safe from traffic.

How You Can Help
CASA Program Manager Jennie Hoffman encourages community involvement, saying, “We need your support to help ensure every child in the foster care system has someone to stand with them as an advocate. With your support, we can continue to provide trained volunteers to advocate for Lassen County’s most vulnerable population—our foster children… Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our foster youth.”

Please consider sponsoring this unique, family-friendly event.
