Susanville Fire Chief James Moore expressed the department’s sadness after two former members of the fire department recently passed away. Ken ‘Speed’ Stevenson, who was a firefighter between 1957 and 1967 and Fire Chief Lee Anderson, who served from 1955 to 1961 were both remember by Moore.
“It is with great sadness that I must report the loss of two retired members of the Susanville Fire Department,” said Chief Moore. “These two men selflessly served our community together in the late 50s and into the early 60s.”
“They were a joy to have attend department functions up until this last year, sharing with anyone and everyone their stories and memories of the early years in the Fire Department,” Moore continued. “Their loss is a reminder of how precious life can be, it would be an honor to these men if we would strive to serve our fellow human beings, be kind to one another, work and train hard, and of course enjoy what life has to offer!”
According to Moore, Stevenson passed away peacefully at his son’s home in Roseville, California on Thursday, April 19th.
Chief Anderson passed away at his home in Cave Junction, Oregon, also on April 19th.
