The Susanville Choral Society is hosting a very unique event this Thursday evening – an operatic singing master class and workshop!
Everyone who is into performing arts or into the arts in general knows how much work and energy a single performance or piece of art represents. If you are a performer and your focus is singing, you know that it is not an easy task!
It is not enough to just memorize the words and hum the melody – you have to put time and effort into creating a character, into learning the lyrics of the song that they would become your own, work with a pianist or a recording that you would use in the performance, work on stage presentation, rehearse with your partner (or maybe partners), maybe even learn a dance that would come with the song. And all of that work and time is just to do a few minutes solo, ensemble or choral piece!
While working on music and acting, a singer often faces many challenges – singing technique is one of them. What if there is a difficult phrase in the song or a note is just not easy to find? What if a singer’s voice (even though beautiful) is not strong enough? Of course the microphone helps but the singer could express so much more if only his or her voice would be a little stronger! What if there are many high notes? How to hit them and not to lose control of your own voice?
All of these questions and many others will be addressed, and answered, in the Voice Master Class with Dr. Joshua Lindsay, operatic tenor with the famous Tiroler Landestheatre Opera House in Innsbruck, Austria! Come and observe local performers working with a renowned operatic tenor on Thursday, August 20th, at 6.30p.m., in the Creative Arts building (room 127 – Music Room) at Lassen Community College. Audience tickets are a meager $10 and are available at Margie’s Book Nook, 700 Main Street, and at Axia Home Loans, 2940 Riverside Drive.
If you have any questions about the Master Class or if you would like to become a participant singer in a future Master Class/Workshops, please call (530) 251-6738.
