Five Suisun City, California, residents and one Bend, Oregon, man were injured in a traffic collision that occurred on Highway 44 west of McCoy Reservoir Saturday afternoon, according to details provided by the California Highway Patrol.
At around 1:30p.m. the 73-year old driver of a 2000 Ford Excursion, identified by the CHP as Stephen Munson, was traveling westbound on Hwy 44 when he encountered a 2004 Dodge Ram driven by 38-year old Rafael Vidal.
Vidal’s vehicle was beginning a left turn onto a dirt road and Munson swerved left to avoid the slower vehicle, which was, at the same time, turning left. The Excursion vehicle struck the left side of Vidal’s vehicle with both vehicles coming to rest south of the roadway.
Munson was transported by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center moderate injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Ram and his four passengers were transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center by ground ambulance.
“Wearing your seatbelt is the number one defensive action you can take to protect yourself in the event of a collision,” reminds CHP Public Information Officer Kristen Wilburn. “Always buckle up and make sure children are properly restrained in a car seat or booster seat.”
