The Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol has released details of a single-vehicle collision that occurred May 26th, near Spaulding at Eagle Lake.
According to the report the collision happened at around 2:30p.m., when a woman identified by the CHP as 43-year old Rocklin resident Dusty Lynn Harrison and her passenger, a six-year old female whose name was withheld because of her age, were driving from a residence in Spaulding, south on Mahogany Way.
Both the driver and her passenger were secured by a 4-point harness in their 2017 CanAm off-road vehicle and the passenger was wearing her helmet according to CHP, while the driver was not.
As the vehicle turned west onto Almond Way, a dirt road within the Lassen National Forest approximately half-mile west of Mahogany Way, Harrison began driving the ATV in circles around a large puddle in the roadway.
“Due to suspected alcohol impairment,” the report continues, “Harrison lost control of the vehicle, and it overturned in the roadway.”
As a result of the collision, Harrison was rendered unconscious. Her passenger was able to extricate herself from the CanAm and walked east on Almond Way toward Mahogany Way.
At around 3:00p.m., the unidentified 6-year old located a Lassen Fire Engine parked at the south end of Mahogany Way and advised of the collision. The fire engine’s crew located her family members in the area and returned her to them. Subsequently she was medically evaluated and found to be uninjured as a result of the collision.
Lassen Fire located the off-road vehicle, with Harrison still secured within the driver seat, unconscious. Firefighters extricated her at which time she regained consciousness.
As a result of the collision Harrison suffered visible swelling and abrasion to the left side of her head. She refused medical aid and transport at the scene.
CHP responded to conduct an investigation of the incident and as a result Harrison was arrested for charges relating to Driving Under the Influence and Child Endangerment.
Harrison was transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center where she was medically cleared for booking into the Lassen County Adult Detention Facility.
