The California Highway Patrol today released information on two recent accidents in the Susanville area.
Vehicle vs. Bicycle on Center Road
A Susanville resident received moderate injuries in a car vs. bicycle accident near Rice Canyon Road on Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol reports that a bicyclist, 72 year-old Jerry Douglass of Susanville, was traveling westbound on Center Road with several other bicycles as Palmdale, California resident Bridgette Evans was traveling westbound, approaching the bicyclists and moving into the oncoming lane to pass the group on the left.
According to the Highway Patrol Douglass swerved to the left as Evans began to pass his bicycle and collided with the right side of her vehicle. Douglass was ejected from the bicycle onto the roadway, receiving moderate injuries. He was transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Single Vehicle Rollover on 139
A single vehicle accident on Highway 139 north of Susanville, sent a 54 year-old man to Renown Medical Center with major injuries Thursday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Susanville resident Brian Shelton was traveling northbound in a 1986 Ford Bronco at an unknown speed near the Willow Creek bridge when he failed to negotiate a left hand curve.
Shelton turned back toward the roadway but lost control of his vehicle, which skidded off the west side of the roadway and collided with the dirt embankment. The Bronco overturned several times, coming to rest on its wheels.
Shelton, who according to the Highway Patrol appeared to be wearing his seat belt, sustained major injuries and was transported to Reno by Mountain Lifelight.
