With a series of winter storms expected to impact Lassen County over the next couple of weeks, the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol has issued a reminder to motorists regarding snow removal ordinances and winter parking.
The agency is asking residents to be mindful of where they park, noting that keeping the roadways clear is essential for the safety of the entire community.
“We want to remind everyone: Parking or leaving your vehicle on the road or street right of way in a way that hinders snow removal will result in your vehicle being towed at the owner’s expense,” the CHP explained in a statement released to social media.
The Highway Patrol also offered advice for drivers who find themselves stranded during the coming storms. If your vehicle becomes stuck on the side of the road, you are urged to arrange for your own assistance or tow truck immediately.
“If not, your vehicle will be towed,” the agency warned.
Beyond the cost to the vehicle owner, the CHP emphasized that dealing with abandoned or illegally parked vehicles takes a toll on emergency resources.
“This not only affects you as the vehicle owner, but it also consumes valuable time from our officers who should be out on the highways assisting others in need.”
The CHP concluded their message with a call for cooperation as winter weather sets in: “Let’s all do our part to keep the roads clear and ensure everyone’s safety. Stay safe, stay prepared, and help keep the roadways accessible for all!”
