The California Highway Patrol has released details of a Saturday evening accident which sent three Herlong residents to Banner Lassen Medical Center with minor injuries.
According to the CHP the incident occurred as 20 year-old Kayla Butkins was driving northbound on U.S. 395 near Janesville in a 1989 Jeep Cherokee at approximately 60-70mph.
The highway had icy conditions present at this time from snow and rain throughout the day and the CHP says that, “Due to Ms. Butkins’ unsafe speed for the icy conditions, she lost control of her vehicle.”
The vehicle traveled off of the east roadway edge of US-395 and struck a paddle marker. It then continued down a steep dirt embankment where it collided with a tree, a fence and ultimately overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the yard of a residence.
