CHP: Accident on Highway 395 Near Bass Hill Claims Life of Susanville Man

The California Highway Patrol has released details of the Thursday evening traffic collision that claimed the life of a 30 year-old Susanville man.

According to CHP Public Information Officer Shaun Simmons, at around 5:30p.m. the agency received numerous calls reporting a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 395 near Bass Hill.

When officers arrived on-scene it was confirmed that a pedestrian had been struck by several vehicles and had sustained major trauma resulting in his death.

The CHP reports that it was dark on the highway at the time of the collision, with strong winds and heavy rain.

The pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing and it appears he was standing in the traffic lane when he was struck.

The occupants of the northbound vehicle reported no injuries.

Highway 395 was closed for a brief time before traffic controls were put into place and one-way traffic was allowed past the scene.

The identity of all parties involved in the accident are being withheld at this time and the collision remains under investigation.

The California Highway Patrol is asking anyone with additional information regarding this collision to contact the Susanville Area CHP office at 530.257.2191 or 530.257.9605.
