The California Highway Patrol is releasing the details of an accident on Highway 395 near Laver crossing that resulted in the arrest of a 27 year-old Doyle man on DUI and Hit and Run charges.
According to CHP Public Information Officer Shaun Simmons, on January 26th, at around 7:00a.m., 67 year-old Doyle resident James Jackson left his residence on Laver Crossing Road and came to the intersection with US-395.
“Visibility was reduced to about 100-yards on account of the thick fog,” explained Simmons, “Mr. Jackson made a left turn onto southbound US-395 and as he accelerated he saw headlights appear in behind him as Mr. Bay approached traveling southbound.”
Jeremy Bay, who according to the CHP report was traveling at a speed unsafe for the fog and icy roadway surface, was unable to slow his vehicle before colliding with the rear of Jackson’s vehicle.
After the collision both parties stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. While Jackson retrieved his rear license plate from the traffic lane, Bay returned to his vehicle and left the scene. Further investigation led to Bay’s residence where he was taken into custody for DUI and Hit and Run charges.
