City Announces Departure of Police Chief John King

The City of Susanville’s Interim City Administrator Dan Newton announced in a press release early Tuesday that John King is no longer employed as the city’s Police Chief, effective 5:00p.m. Monday, January 22nd.

In a brief statement Newton explained, “The City of Susanville decided to separate Police Chief John King from employment with the City of Susanville because of incompatibility of management styles.”

King was named Susanville’s Police Chief on January 23rd, 2017, replacing interim Chief Jim Uptegrove.

According to Newton, Sergeant Kelley Merritt has been appointed Acting Chief of Police.
