City to Name Interim Police Chief

interimchiefSusanville City Administrator Jared Hancock announced in a brief statement on Tuesday that, “As a result of Chief Downing’s immediate need for medical leave following injuries he received during his lengthy law enforcement career, the City of Susanville will be announcing the appointment of an Interim Police Chief pending completion of the candidate’s pre-employment screening.”

Chief Downing’s career in law enforcement began in 1987 at the age of 17 when he served as an Explorer Scout for the City of Susanville.

Over the next three decades he worked for the Lassen County Sheriff’s office, as a police officer for the City of Susanville and was named Chief of Police by the City Council in May of 2012.
