Friends, family, coworkers, local dignitaries and a contingent of Masons all gathered at the Lassen Family Services office on Riverside Drive this past Friday for a special ceremony dedicating a bench to the memory of long-time volunteer Jack Jacobs.
The atmosphere was one of warmth and remembrance as the crowd celebrated a man who touched many lives in Susanville. While the ceremony was poignant, it was also filled with the joy that Jack was known for. Attendees shared stories of Jack’s unique life, with friends fondly recalling his trademark sense of humor and his penchant for wearing “crazy socks”—a small detail that brought smiles to the faces of those in attendance.
While many residents in town knew Jack as the friendly face behind the sports counter at Walmart, his impact on the community went much deeper.
Lassen Family Services organized the event to honor Jack’s life, legacy, and advocacy work. Jack is remembered within the organization as a dedicated shelter advocate who poured his heart into mentoring and providing peer counseling to victims of domestic and sexual violence.
During the ceremony, LFS highlighted the profound impact Jack had on both the organization and the clients he served.
According to Lassen Family Services, Jack possessed a unique gift for connection that made him invaluable to the team.
“He had a remarkable ability to read a room and understand non-verbal cues, which made him exceptional at supporting survivors,” the agency noted. “He was tireless, compassionate, and someone we could all look up to.”
The newly dedicated bench in front of the office now stands as a permanent tribute to that compassion, ensuring that Jack’s legacy of service and his unique spirit will continue to be a part of the Lassen Family Services grounds for years to come.
