Celebrity culinary expert and social media influencer John Baldauf is bringing his cross-country food mission to town tomorrow, September 6th. Baldauf and his team will be at Memorial Park, offering free chicken gyro bowls to the first 100 people who show up, starting at 1:00p.m.
Baldauf, who has amassed a large following on his YouTube channel and other social media platforms for his innovative cooking and philanthropic efforts, has embarked on an ambitious journey to feed people from Arizona to Alaska. His mission is to travel across the country with a food trailer, visiting national parks and giving away free meals.
“We’re hitting the road with one mission: visit as many National Parks as we can with a food trailer in tow – and give away as much free food as we can to fellow travelers along the way,” Baldauf said.
The stop in Susanville has a personal connection for Baldauf. His mom and dad are coming down to visit him here in town, where his father attended Lassen College as a member of the basketball team and went through the gunsmithing program, earning his certificate in 1984.
His father is also here to reconnect with his former basketball coach, Coach John Jones, whom he lived with while attending Lassen College.
Baldauf’s food-based journey began in Phoenix, Arizona, with a stop at the Petrified Forest. The team has since traveled through Utah, visiting Canyonlands and Zion and explored California’s Yosemite and Redwood National and State Parks.
After Susanville they will journey through Oregon to see Crater Lake and Mount Hood, before reaching the lush wilderness of Olympic National Park in Washington.
From there, the team will continue on to Glacier National Park and then Yellowstone, before heading through Canada on their way to their final destination: Denali National Park in Alaska.

“It’s an ambitious adventure—especially on a shoestring budget—but the heart of this journey will never change: sharing food wherever we go and connecting with the communities we come across,” Baldauf said.
Baldauf and his team are funding the trip entirely themselves and are accepting donations to help cover costs. “If you’d like to support us, donations are deeply appreciated,” he said.

“Every cent goes directly to the food we give away, gas, propane, and essential travel expenses. We’re funding this trip entirely ourselves, and with your help more bellies can be filled along the way. Thank You!”
Community members are encouraged to arrive early at Memorial Park to get a free chicken gyro bowl and meet Baldauf and his team.
