It’s that time of year. The holidays are over. Winter doldrums are creeping in. Whatever to do? On Saturday, January 26, join Lassen Land and Trails Trust and treat that Cabin Fever.
Lassen Land and Trust is offering two adventurous outings. One for the more seasoned cross-country skier and the other for just a quick trip to get out and get some cool air in your lungs.
The first cross-country ski outing is to Butte Lake, led by Phil Finkel. This is for the tried and true cross-country skier. It’s a 13 mile round trip. Lassen Land and Trust asks that you please pre-register at www.llttweb.org or call 530-257-3252, dress appropriately and bring water, snacks and lunch. Participants will meet at the historic Susanville railroad depot at 8:00 a.m. If yo don’t have skies of your own, locally owned Bicycle Bananas has skis for rent.
If a 13 mile trip is a little more than what you are looking for, then maybe a short snowshoe hike will fit the bill. Led by Mike Rivas, the snow shoe hike will depart from the historic Susanville railroad depot at 1:00 p.m. Lassen Land and Trails Trust has snow shoes to lend. Please pre-register, dress appropriately and bring water and snack.
After both events, everyone will meet back at the depot at 5:00 p.m. for an array of hot, homemade soups, breads and cookies. If you would like to simply just eat out, come to the depot for dinner!
The ski trip and snow shoe hike are free registration. The soup dinner is $10 per person and $5 for children 12 and under. While filling up on great soups, enjoy a no-host bar and silent auction with some really awesome outdoor items and packages!
The event has been planned with the hope that folks will still get to the Veteran’s Hall for Lassen Arts Council’s ‘Ed Susanville’ curtain at 7:30 p.m. or contact Louise Jensen at
Lassen Land and Trails Trust, a non-profit member supported organization, actively works to conserve significant natural areas and working landscapes and to promote and enhance a system of leading public trails in northeastern California—where the Sierra Nevada, Cascade, Modoc Plateau and the Great Basin converge, a unique region rich in agricultural heritage, wildlife and scenic vistas.
