DANDY the Smokeless Dragon paid a visit to the Lassen Indian Health Center’s special event, “It’s On You”- a health education event on March 16th, 2013.
Prevention Specialist, Lori Speer, volunteered her time at the event and Doce Aguilar brought Dandy to life for the afternoon. Other Tribal Youth members, Mark Nez, Adriana Torres, Jessica Bernardino, Omee Lent, Thomas Montoya and Joaquin Torres assisted DANDY and handed out tobacco education information as well as tobacco free stickers to the children.
“Having the pleasure of working with the Susanville Indian Rancheria youth was outstanding,” said Susie McNally, from the Lassen County Department of Public Health. They had great leadership skills and required no prompting to work with us—great work ethic and self starters.
DANDY was introduced to the Tribal Council during the special presentation part of the event. The Susanville Indian Rancheria Tribal Youth carry out community service as part of their event. According to McNally,DANDY played with the children present and hugged kids and danced a bit with them and did the high five and the teens provided stickers and temporary tattoos to the children. When Dandy attended the adult event he did some hand shaking and hugging and the teens passed out tobacco free TAKE CHARGE cards that provides free cessation counseling through tool free phone calls to the California Smokers Helpline.
“The Lassen County Public Health Tobacco Use Reduction Program and DANDY the Smokeless Dragon appreciate all the outstanding help representing DANDY and reminding everyone about the dangers of tobacco use, ” said McNally.
