In a follow up to a story we published last week, we wanted to take a closer look at crime statistics posted by the Susanville Police Department and compare and contrast them with numbers from the previous year, taking a detailed look at year-over-year trends that highlight a significant shift toward proactive policing and increased activity on city streets.
According to the new data, the department handled a total of 15,488 incidents in 2025, a noticeable increase from the 13,358 incidents logged in 2024.
A Shift to Proactive Policing
The most distinct trend in the 2025 report is the surge in officer-initiated activity. In 2024, officers responded to 7,502 calls for service and initiated 5,856 incidents themselves. In 2025, that dynamic flipped. While calls for service from the public remained relatively steady at 7,585, officer-initiated activities jumped to 7,903, surpassing incoming calls and signaling a more aggressive approach to patrol work.
Arrests and Reports
Despite the increase in total incidents, the total number of arrests dipped slightly, dropping from 528 in 2024 to 497 in 2025. DUI arrests saw a slight decrease, falling from 66 in 2024 to 60 in 2025.
Traffic Safety and Citations
Traffic enforcement numbers shifted in 2025. While officers conducted 2,516 traffic stops – a decrease from the 2,703 stops made in 2024 – and the total citations went from 1,081 to 848 in 2025.
Community Engagement and Animal Control
The department’s role in community services saw varied trends. The front desk was slightly quieter, fielding 1,366 walk-in counter calls in 2025 compared to 1,462 the year prior. However, Animal Control saw a massive spike in activity. Officers responded to 645 animal control calls in 2025, more than doubling the 271 incidents recorded in 2024.
